The John P. Ellbogen Dean of the University of Wyoming College of Education

The University of Wyoming (UW) invites nominations and applications for the position of The John P. Ellbogen Dean of the University of Wyoming College of Education. The dean is the chief academic officer of the college and the executive director of the Trustees Education Initiative (TEI), reporting to the provost and vice president for academic affairs and overseeing two schools and the Literacy Research Center and Clinic, as well as engaging in the college’s participation in the Wyoming School-University Partnership.

The John P. Ellbogen Dean is the academic and administrative leader of the College of Education and works closely with the management team including associate deans; directors of the School of Teacher Education and the School of Counseling, Leadership, Advocacy and Design; the Executive Director of the Literacy Research Center and Clinic; and the faculty and staff of the college. As Executive Director of TEI, the dean provides direction to TEI staff to support ongoing improvement efforts in the college. The dean represents the college on the university campus and throughout the state of Wyoming. The ideal candidate will interact with stakeholders within the college and the university as well as in the community and with alumni.

As the only public four-year institution of higher learning in Wyoming, UW takes pride in its distinctive role as both flagship and land-grant campus and in its stature as a national research university. The UW is a doctoral/research extensive, Division I university with more than 13,000 students enrolled in baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral programs on and off campus. The main campus of UW is located in Laramie, a city of 27,000 nestled on the high plains between two ranges of the Rocky Mountains.

The successful candidate should possess an earned doctorate degree, with experience in an education-related discipline, from an accredited institution;  expertise in at least one of the disciplines represented by the college; a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship; evidence of strong leadership and administrative ability in a university or college environment;   the strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective interactions both within the university and across the state; and a demonstrated commitment to the power of education.
