Provost

Lees-McRae College, located in Banner Elk, NC, invites nominations and applications for the appointment of Provost. The College seeks a creative and dynamic Provost who will provide active and engaged leadership across campus, serve as an advocate for the faculty, and work to enhance the academic programs, rigor, and success of the College and outcomes for its students.

The Lees-McRae campus is situated on 460 acres in the charming town of Banner Elk, ideally located in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. The area, known as The High Country, offers a number of outdoor activities including snow skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, rafting, and is home to a number of world-class golf courses and gated-communities. In addition to outdoor recreation, the region has a range of outstanding dining options, a growing arts scene, and distinctive shops that reflect the culture of the area. Serving 1,000 undergraduate students, Lees-McRae has the highest elevation of any college or university campus in the United States east of the Mississippi River. Ninety-five percent of campus students reside in one of the ten residence halls.

Lees-McRae College offers more than 35 undergraduate majors and minors and one graduate degree on the main campus. As a complement to the traditional collegiate experience, we have also offered 2+2 undergraduate degree programs at distance sites and online for the last 20 years. Programs of study are housed within four schools: Arts, Humanities and Education; Business and Management; Nursing and Health Sciences; and Natural and Behavioral Sciences.

Reporting to the President, the Provost serves as the primary representative and advocate for faculty within the administration and is the ranking college officer who acts in the absence of the President. The Provost should be an active and visible leader, become personally vested in the life of the College, have the skill and diplomacy to develop true vision for the academic program, and promote high expectations and accountability across campus and within the academic program. The new Provost will be expected to be fiscally astute and a strong teammate within the administrative structure.  Candidates should have an  earned terminal degree and experience showing an advancing record of achievement in both the academic and administrative realms.  Qualifications necessary for appointment to senior faculty rank, with a strong academic record and a commitment to both liberal arts and professional studies is required.
