Assistant or Associate Professors in Design, Computation, & Fabrication (Tenure-Track)

  

The Texas Tech College of Architecture (CoA) seeks dedicated and energetic candidates for multiple positions in Design, Computation, & Fabrication (DCF).  These positions will be at the tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor level and will enter the CoA at a time of significant and energetic change. Successful candidates will be a vital part of this field’s evolution and will contribute to the CoA’s increased prominence and emphasis on design excellence. 

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to establish a robust research agenda between innovative architectural design and the applicant’s area of expertise. Areas of expertise may include (but are not limited to) computational design, robotics, advanced material investigation, fabrication and manufacturing, representational techniques, digital design applications or a related research field. Special consideration will be given to candidates with the potential for, or evidence of, innovative design work that significantly impacts building practices as well as research that uses data and digital processes to expand ideas about construction, fabrication, assembly, tectonics and environmental and/or cultural sensitivity. To support faculty research and teaching, the CoA is equipped with extensive fabrication shops including traditional metal, wood, and plaster areas. In addition, the CoA has a computerized milling, laser-cutting and dedicated robotics laboratory space. Candidates who have a very strong record of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. 

  

The ideal candidate will have a committed and proven ability to work with a diverse body of faculty and diverse student populations. Teaching assignments will be specific to the candidate’s area of expertise and include one design studio and one seminar within the DCF curriculum. Service to the department, college, and university is expected and includes program-building within the specializations in the CoA, advising and guidance within this curriculum, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities. 

  

College of Architecture  

The CoA’s main campus is located in Lubbock, Texas in the high plains of the West Texas and Llano Estacado regions. The Llano Estacado is one of the American West’s most unique landscapes with proximity to Marfa, Texas where the CoA is significantly engaged. The CoA Lubbock campus offers a B.S. in Architecture as well as M.Arch, M.S. and an interdisciplinary PhD in Land-Use Planning, Management, and Design (LPMD). M.S. degrees are offered in Digital Computation + Fabrication, Urban + Community Design, and Health + Wellness Design. Moreover, graduate certificates are also offered in Digital Computation + Fabrication, Health Care Facilities Design, Health and Wellness Design, Historic Preservation and Conservation, Land Arts of the American West, and Urban + Community Design. Finally, the CoA is both regionally and globally engaged, implementing a full semester abroad program in Seville, Spain and study abroad programs and studios in Korea and Singapore, among others. 

  

The CoA celebrates continued rank increases by Design Intelligence in the category of “most hired from schools” (#10 in 2019). Additionally, the CoA is ranked as the #1 Hispanic serving college of architecture in the nation by the Hispanic Outlook on Education in 2019, with a diverse culture of students, with over 44% Hispanic students studying in all programs. The CoA’s work is in line with the University’s new strategic plan and in particular its attainment of Tier-One university status.

Required Qualifications: 

-       Terminal degree in Architecture: a B. Arch degree plus a terminal degree in architecture or a related field, a professional M. Arch degree.  An equivalent international degree or professional equivalency will also be considered.   

-       Expertise in the area of Design, Computation, and Fabrication 

-       A clear, strong research and creative work agenda 

-       Teaching experience in the area of expertise and architectural design studio 

-       Previous and potential contributions that enhance a culture of diversity 

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

-       Post-professional degree in the area of expertise 

-       Ph.D. degree in the area of expertise and/or equivalent experience in professional practice 

-       Professional licensure and evidence of excellence in design practice 

-       Evidence of excellence in research 

-       Evidence of excellence in teaching
