Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (Five Unit Level Roles)

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) invites nominations and applications for five Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion positions. As a strategic partner to the deans and senior leadership teams, the Assistant Deans for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (ADeans) will have ten years of experience and contribute to the continued growth and success of each unit and advance them by cultivating a diverse and inclusive work environment that encompasses the unique perspectives and experiences of faculty, staff, students and the larger community MIT serves. This is a joint hiring effort with support from the Provost’s office. The ADeans will work collaboratively to support each other and the broader institutional strategy for diversity and inclusion.

The units these roles will support include:

The ADeans will focus on the development of a comprehensive and strategic framework to support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within each school; engage in continuous, systematic, and focused recruitment and retention activities to support diverse student, faculty, and staff populations; serve as a key ambassador for their school; and liaise with the Institute Community and Equity Officer. ADeans will hold leading roles on school-based diversity and inclusion councils and will develop and implement a full range of initiatives that support ongoing efforts to ensure organization-wide understanding, adoption, and adherence to diversity, equity, and inclusion while fostering a respectful and caring culture that embraces and enables everyone to learn and work at their best.

The ADeans will serve as thought leaders with in-depth knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion; improve the campus climate; and, intentionally engage faculty, students, and staff in dialogue around critical issues to support the academic, career, and personal development of women, members of underrepresented minority groups, the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities.

These are rare opportunities for accomplished and collaborative individuals to engage MIT faculty, staff, students, and alumni to build a welcoming and inclusive learning and working culture.
