Champlain College

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Champlain College, a transformational institution focused on career-focused experiential learning, is seeking a courageous and (a thoughtful) disruptive leader to serve as their Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in Burlington, VT.

Champlain’s motto is Audeamus – Let Us Dare. Champlain’s transformational moments have been marked by the combination of daring vision and brilliant teamwork. There is an undeniable energy that flows through Champlain College. From on-campus game studios and creative media labs to online learning communities, international satellites, and numerous partnerships with employers, the College combines the courageous with the compassionate, the curious with the cutting edge. The institution’s history (founded in 1878) is one of constant evolution and reinvention, and relentless improvement is part of its essential character.

Career-focused and experiential learning and education is Champlain.  For example, Champlain hosts ten Centers of Experience, ranging from the Senator Leahy Center for Digital Forensics & Cybersecurity to the Center for Financial Literacy and the Emergent Media Center. Champlain students work alongside faculty and industry professionals to turn theory into practice for real- world clients.  Employers such as AT&T, Ben & Jerry’s, Burton Snowboards, and Green Mountain Power hire Champlain students for internships and full-time.  A Champlain education is valuable. Almost 95 percent of Champlain students are employed within six months after graduating. Employers rave about Champlain’s students—their intelligence, teamwork, can-do ethos, ability to work collaboratively with others.

In addition to Champlain’s focus on experiential and applied learning, the institution has exercised innovation for decades with its learning platforms.  For example, Champlain College established one of the first online degree and certificate programs to meet the needs of working professional students in 1992. Since then, the institution under Champlain College Online (CCO) has evolved and today offers more than 60 nationally acclaimed degree and certificate programs in a flexible learning format. CCO has experienced 300 percent growth over the past five years and educates over 3,000 individuals from all 50 states.

Adding to the energy on campus, Champlain appointed a new President last year.  Dr. Benjamin Ola. Akande is a Nigerian-American citizen, a respected economist, a scholar educator, and served as a global consultant to Fortune 500 companies and higher education institutions. He is seeking a Provost as his partner to envision the future.
