Lancaster Theological Seminary

Presidential Search

The Board of Trustees of Lancaster Theological Seminary (LTS) announces a national search for the next President and invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for this position.

Established in 1825 by members of the German Reformed churches in Pennsylvania to educate clergy to serve America’s fledgling churches, LTS has expanded its mission to serve a more diverse Church and global society. Over the 20th Century, the Seminary expanded its mission as a fully accredited graduate school of theology providing education for both lay and ordained leaders. Degree programs include Master of Divinity, Doctor of Ministry, Master of Arts in Religion, and Master of Arts in Ministry and Leadership. In recent years, LTS has faced the challenge of an increasingly competitive environment for theological education by redesigning the core degree program to offer the Master of Divinity in two tracks, weekdays and weekends, and redesigning the Doctor of Ministry and the Masters of Arts in Ministry and Leadership to accommodate working professionals.

The next President will be called to build upon the Seminary’s long and proud tradition of educating leaders for church and society. Specific leadership opportunities include shaping a vision for LTS’s future, developing a strategic plan, continuing the focus on diversity, moving toward a stable financial model, and advancing the Seminary’s marketing and advancement programs.

As the chief executive officer and administrator of LTS, the President carries overall responsibility to fulfill the Seminary’s mission. The successful candidate for this position will be a person of deep and vibrant faith in the progressive Christian tradition who holds an earned doctorate, professional master’s or other terminal degree. In addition, the next President will be expected to demonstrate a record of visionary leadership, effective planning, and strong skills in administration, marketing and fundraising. A track record of effective advocacy and leadership to advance diversity, equity and inclusion is also very important.
