THE SEARCH

Nichols College seeks a strategic and visionary leader with entrepreneurial spirit to become its eighth president. Nichols College is a college of choice for business and leadership education as a result of its distinctive career-focused and leadership-based approaches to learning, both in and out of the classroom, including impactful research, internship, and professional education opportunities. The Nichols community seeks a president with passion for the mission of the college and its distinctive qualities with the skills to expand, leverage, and wisely manage the college's resources both through and beyond these unprecedented times in higher education.

Located an hour from Boston on a beautiful and modern campus, with a student body of 1,500 full-time and part-time students, Nichols offers quality undergraduate degree programs in business and the liberal arts. With over 80 percent of undergraduate students pursuing degrees in business, the majority of all teaching – whether in the general education core, business core, or concentrations – is directed at business students, however, Nichols has a Liberal Arts Core Curriculum, which every BA student completes, encouraging leadership skills, critical thinking, research, writing, and presenting.

Since 1815, Nichols has remained committed to its mission and tradition, constantly building on its strength and evolving to meet the changing needs of its students. The value of a Nichols education is underscored by outcomes with 96 percent of the class of 2019 employed or in graduate school. Nichols’ results have also received national recognition. National Payscale.com ranked Nichols the 12th best business school for salary potential and 14th best-value business school, and a Stanford University study gave Nichols the 13th highest success rate nationally out of 578 selective private colleges for helping students achieve a higher economic status than the one in which they were raised.

The next president will follow the successful decade-long tenure of Susan West Engelkemeyer, who is retiring in June 2021. The college is on a remarkable trajectory, even as several small private New England colleges face declining enrollments. A powerful mix of leadership, vigilance, creativity, and campus collaboration has resulted in annual retention gains and increasing graduation rates over the past several years. The next president, in collaboration with the full range of college stakeholders, including a deeply committed faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees, will build on Nichols' distinctive strengths and achievements to unite its community around its student-focused vision for the college's future. Exhibiting agile leadership, welcoming change and innovation, increasing diversity, and raising the visibility and reputation of Nichols College throughout New England and the nation in the years to come will be critical to the next president's success.
