SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF DIVERSITY OFFICER

An Invitation to Apply

for the Position of

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF DIVERSITY OFFICER

DARTMOUTH COLLEGE

HANOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Dartmouth College seeks a strategic leader, collaborative campus partner, and proven administrator with an innovative spirit and a track record of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to serve as its inaugural Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer. Reporting directly to the president, serving on the College’s leadership team, and overseeing the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity (IDE), the Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer (SVP/CDO) will be a highly influential leader with the ability to empower others to collectively deepen Dartmouth’s ongoing efforts to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive community for all faculty, staff, and students.

Founded in 1769, Dartmouth is a member of the Ivy League and consistently ranks among the world’s greatest academic institutions. Dartmouth has forged a singular identity for combining its deep commitment to outstanding undergraduate liberal arts and graduate education with distinguished research and scholarship in the Arts and Sciences and its four leading graduate schools – the Geisel School of Medicine, the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, Thayer School of Engineering, and the Tuck School of Business.

Dartmouth’s capacity to advance its dual mission of education and research depends upon the full diversity and inclusivity of its community. Dartmouth’s leadership, starting with the Board of Trustees, has unequivocally committed to improving its campus climate and culture as it pertains to the recruitment, retention, and inclusion of all faculty, staff, and students, particularly those from underrepresented and historically marginalized backgrounds. With the June 2020 retirement of Dartmouth’s long-standing Vice President for Institutional Diversity & Equity, the College is seizing this important moment to realize its aspirations by elevating the title, the portfolio, and the reporting line of this position. Dartmouth’s new Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer will report to the President and serve as a member of Dartmouth’s Senior Leadership Group. Enhancement of the position follows the announcement in July 2020 by senior leadership and members of the Board of Trustees of a series of measures designed to bring about meaningful change at Dartmouth.

There is broad recognition that this level of significant cultural change will require hard work and resources and that the SVP/CDO cannot enact lasting change alone. There is a shared commitment and heightened urgency around the need for this work at all levels of the organization. This is a pivotal moment for an entrepreneurial and collaborative leader to have a real impact at an institution committed to doing the difficult work of culture change.
