The University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina, seeks a visionary and strategic leader committed to excellence and equity to serve as the next Chancellor. This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented and accomplished executive leader with significant potential to shape and advance the future of higher education in the dynamic Upstate region of South Carolina and to significantly enhance the community impact of the University. The new Chancellor will be selected by USC President Robert Caslen and is expected to take office by July 1, 2021.

Upstate is a regional comprehensive university nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, between Atlanta, GA, and Charlotte, NC. It is an independently accredited university and the largest public comprehensive university within the USC System. As the only public comprehensive university in the Upstate region, USC Upstate is home to approximately 6,300 students enrolled in more than 45 undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Chancellor is the chief administrative officer of USC Upstate and has full authority to administer institutional affairs. The Chancellor is accountable to the University of South Carolina System President and Board of Trustees for the execution of all laws, policies, rules, and regulations relating to the University of South Carolina System. A top priority for the next Chancellor will be leading with strength and vision through the remaining or ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The University is well underway in its execution of the Up. Together—USC Upstate Strategic Plan 2018 – 2023, and it is expected that the next Chancellor will continue and build on this work.
