Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Engineering at the institution’s campus in Daytona Beach, Florida. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Dean is the College’s academic and administrative leader, and will have responsibility for supporting and enhancing the College’s strategic vision for a culture of academic excellence in teaching and research, and in building successful collaborative relationships with external constituents and within the College and the University. The next Dean will have the opportunity to further expand a thriving College and sharpen its strategic focus by capitalizing on its current strengths and identifying new areas of potential synergy and innovation.  

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) is recognized as the world leader in aviation and aerospace higher education. The College of Engineering is comprised of the Departments of Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Fundamentals, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. There are more than 100 full-time faculty, and about 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.  

The College of Engineering’s most advanced laboratories are housed in the John Mica Engineering and Aerospace Innovation Complex in the University’s Research Park. The world-class facility is where engineering research, business incubator spaces, and the presence of aeronautics and space-focused industry collide to create an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship support.

The next Dean will serve as the chief administrative, academic, and budgetary officer of the College and work collaboratively with ERAU’s other colleges and campuses. ERAU seeks a visionary, passionate, and entrepreneurial leader with a deep understanding of best practices and future directions in undergraduate and graduate engineering education. The next Dean should bring an interdisciplinary perspective to the role, as well as experience working with industry partners and in an applied setting. The next Dean will possess outstanding leadership skills coupled with the ability to serve as an articulate advocate for the College within the higher education and business communities, locally, nationally and internationally. The next Dean should elevate the College’s profile among industry and external members of academia in an effort to enhance its reputation. While maintaining a focus on engineering education, the next Dean will work to identify sources of funding to continue to build the research capacity of the College, including support from federal agencies, among other sources.  The next Dean will also play the central role in fundraising for the College and developing external and internal relationships across the ERAU community and beyond. The next Dean should work to advance further the College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Additionally, the next Dean should have a pulse on the student engineering experience and their needs. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in an engineering-related field and have earned tenure through an outstanding record of teaching, research, and service. Experience working as an industry professional is preferred.
