The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a visiting instructor or lecturer position in the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA). This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment, annually renewable for up to four academic years (maximum) that includes teaching and service-based duties. The anticipated start date is December 23, 2020.
The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of NSCM through teaching courses at the graduate level in FIEA and the undergraduate level in the Games and Interactive Media (GaIM) program.
By the time of appointment, applicants must hold a master's degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree (for a lecturer) in an appropriate-related discipline from an accredited institution. At least one year of related industry experience is required. Candidates must have appropriate specializations in a majority of the following areas: 3D modeling, 3D game art asset pipeline, asset rigging and implementation in-game engine, lighting, motion capture, digital sculpting, texturing, virtual/augmented/mixed reality and aspects of video game design, digital special effects and interactive technology. Candidates must have extensive experience with the following software programs and be able to teach the use of these programs to students: Maya, Houdini, ZBrush, Unity, Unreal Engine 4 and Substance Painter.
Preference will be given to candidates who have previous teaching experience at the university level. Candidates should possess effective communication skills and be comfortable with public speaking and classroom teaching.
While UCF has adapted its instructional delivery of courses to various modes due to COVID-19, this position is among those based at UCF Downtown, which opened in 2019. Located in Downtown Orlando, the new campus is home to 7,700 UCF and Valencia College students studying degree programs that align with emerging industries, within walking distance of jobs and internships.
