Research Assistant 2

JOB SUMMARY

The Performance Improvement Center (PIC) in the UConn School of Social Work and Department Of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) Research Division are seeking a Research Assistant 2 (RA 2). Under the supervision of the project directors, the RA 2 will carry out data collection, analysis, and reporting related to child welfare, substance abuse and related research activities.  Currently, PIC works with the Department of Children and Families evaluating the differential response program and a community maltreatment prevention program. The DMHAS Research Division conducts program evaluations and cost effectiveness studies and investigates many issues of policy relevance in the mental health and addictions fields, including supportive housing, mental health and addictions among criminal justice-involved populations, trauma interventions, and implementation of evidence-based practices. Both groups produce relevant and timely research on their topics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in developing and carrying out a system of program fidelity assessment and measurement of outcome indicators;
  2. Assist in developing and implementing data transfer and analysis protocols; assist with data entry as required;
  3. Participate with the research teams in conducting data analysis and performance assessments;
  4. Identify problem areas for investigation, reporting and consultation purposes;
  5. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all data collection, data entry, and data analysis activities;
  6. Maintain security of project data;
  7. Liaison with project contractors as directed;
  8. Assist in production of data reports;
  9. Other project-related responsibilities, as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree in social work or related field with 2-3 years of post-degree experience in child welfare or other human service arena or a master’s degree social work or related field.
  2. At least 2 years' experience in conducting human subjects research.
  3. Experience in cleaning and analyzing data.
  4. Ability to conduct basic statistical analyses.
  5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  6. Ability to collaborate/work independently as part of a disbursed team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Familiar with preparation of data presentations for different audiences including academic manuscripts, briefs, and legislative testimony.
  2. Experience in conducting literature reviews, writing comprehensive analytical reports, and grant progress reports.
  3. Experience working with large administrative data sets.
  4. Experience in working with statistical programs (SPSS, SAS, STATA, etc.).
  5. Interest and willingness to learn new skills and programs, such as Tableau, GIS, or other data analysis and presentation software.
  6. Experience with professional presentations to internal groups. 
  7. Experience working independently on quantitative data.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month position based on available funding and subject to annual renewal. Salary will be commensurate with successful candidate's background and experience. Screening of applications will begin immediately. The University offers outstanding medical and retirement benefits.
