Assistant Professor in Digital Sound Design

Dakota State University (DSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Digital Sound Design, effective August 2021. We are seeking an energetic and experienced individual who has the right talents and skills to teach sound design and recording arts courses for students in the Digital Sound Design track of the well-established Digital Arts and Design (DAD) major. The courses may also include students from Computer Graphics or Production Animation (also in the DAD major), as well as interested students from other programs across campus.

The successful candidate will demonstrate passion for hands-on instruction, teaching courses in sound design and audio production with a genuine desire to help students excel in the recording arts industry. Experience in electroacoustic / 3D / immersive sound, acoustic ecology, sound forensics, sound therapy, or other applications of sound are highly desirable.

The successful applicant will join the College of Arts and Sciences and will report directly to the Dean. The College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Mathematics Education, Biology and Biology Education, Physical Sciences, Digital Arts and Design, Computer Game Design, and English for New Media.

DSU and the College of Arts & Sciences are student centered and committed to the success of the university’s undergraduates. The successful candidate is expected to provide service to the university and college through committee assignments, curriculum development, student advising, and recruiting/retention activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
• An MFA in Sound Design or related field or relevant industry experience;
• Ability to teach topics in the Digital Sound Design specialization;
• Commitment to work collaboratively within the department, college, and university;
• Communication and interpersonal skills to mentor students both creatively and technically.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated professional accomplishment and/or scholarly research;
• Ability to work collaboratively within the program, college, and university;
• Experience in Electroacoustic / 3D / Immersive Sound, Acoustic Ecology, Sound Forensics, Sound Therapy, or other applications of sound.
