Summary:
The Art & Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Graphic Design to begin August 2021. We seek a visionary and collaborative designer/educator who will teach undergraduate graphic design courses, motivate students to create compelling work, serve on departmental, school or university committees, and contribute to the graphic design field through professional work, exhibition and/or publication. If requested, the candidate must be willing to serve as area coordinator. Coordinator duties include overseeing curriculum, supervising student activities and instruction, scheduling of courses, hiring and overseeing adjunct instructors and managing the area budget. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, as well as to teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices.

UVU, located in Orem, Utah, is a comprehensive state institution of higher education with over 37,000 students. Orem is on the western front of the Wasatch Mountains and offers access to numerous outdoor activities including snow sports, hiking, mountain biking, and hunting. The Wasatch Front metropolitan area offers rich cultural opportunities in the arts including the Sundance Film Festival and world-class music and dance companies. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of graphic design practice, theory, and history that includes a variety of perspectives
- Knowledge of student management, motivation and evaluation techniques
- Knowledge of Apple Mac computers
- Skills and experience with Adobe CC including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
- Skills in UX or Motion Graphics are a plus
- Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving and decision-making
- Excellent communication skills
- Practice and teach graphic design from a strong concept-driven perspective. Must have experience with one or more of the following: Branding, Typography, UI/UX, Motion Graphics.
- Ability to teach graphic design courses, and mentor and motivate students in inclusive and engaging ways.
- Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives
- Experience teaching courses in a variety of formats: hybrid/online/live stream/weekends/evenings
- Ability to relate well with students and colleagues
- Ability to evaluate student work effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to apply appropriate technology in classroom teaching


Preferred Qualifications:
MFA, MA or equivalent in graphic design or related field of study preferred. Professional design experience preferred. College level graphic design teaching experience preferred.


Physical Requirements:
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment.

Pay Range: $55,000 - $60,000 DOQ
