Academic Technology Specialist

Graduate Business Learning Center, Hartford

The Information Technology in the School of Business is seeking a full-time Academic Technology Specialist (Temporary University Specialist) to provide support for all programs located at the Graduate Business Learning Center (GBLC).  This position will report to the IT Service Delivery Manager and will be based at GBLC in downtown Hartford.  Evening and weekend hours will be required in support of classes and program activities.  In-state travel to the other University campuses may also be required on occasion.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Providing technology support for all academic programs and centers housed at the GBLC.
  • Assisting in implementing, documenting, and supporting client technology-related initiatives for the School.
  • Providing remote support for distance learning classes and online events.
  • Assisting in the preparation and documentation of policies, training material and knowledge books.
  • Implementing the delivery of A/V conferencing and teleconferencing services to BUSN classes and conference rooms.
  • Initiating repairs, modifications, updates or other solutions to maintain uninterrupted service.
  • Providing frontline support for staff/faculty mobile computers.
  • Providing in-class support for students/instructors integrating mobile computing into the curriculum.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in technology or CS/MIS, or equivalent amount of education and training or two (2) or more years of experience relevant to support of end user computers and technology.
  • Experience with desktop, mobile computers, interfaces, mobile devices and related peripherals.
  • Ability to work well with people, organize workloads, handle difficult problems and work well under stress.
  • Ability to manage assigned projects within other daily responsibilities.
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft and Apple operating systems and computer hardware repair.
  • Substantial experience with MS Office Professional Suite software.
  • Extremely high level of motivation, independence and responsibility.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to work evening and weekend hours, and to travel to other University campuses on occasion.

 

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time temporary position with a schedule of 40 hours per week for an initial period of four months, with the possibility of extension dependent upon department needs and available funding.
