Senior Scientist, Vector-Host Biology

JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is seeking a creative and highly motivated individual to join the gene therapy team who will help bring gene and cell therapies to patients. This individual will be responsible for advancing viral vector pipelines through investigation of critical virus-host interactions and restrictions unique to priority target cell populations, with a focus on development of mitigation strategies to maximize gene delivery. Experimentally, this individual will execute complex IND-enabling preclinical experiments using a variety of techniques while working closely with other members of the gene therapy, pharmacology, and process development teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Optimization of viral vector composition for gene delivery into priority cell types through identification of stimulatory and inhibitory host cell proteins.
  • Design of experiments to mitigate the impact of inhibitory virus-host interactions and restriction factors.
  • Experimental viral vector production, titration, documentation and storage.
  • Staying up to date with current knowledge to enable innovation across gene delivery technologies.
  • Function as an independent individual contributor while working closely with other members of the gene therapy, pharmacology, and process development teams to share and apply knowledge advancements.
  • Provide mentorship to others through active engagement of team members and by leading during presentations and scientific discussions.
  • Independent planning, design and execution of complex experiments using a variety of molecular and cell-based techniques including flow cytometry, qPCR, ddPCR, and other molecular and cell biology techniques.
  • Reviewing and presenting data cross-functionally at department meetings and larger forums.
  • Comply with standard laboratory practices and company policies, including notebook documentation and biosafety policies.
  • Contribute to the overall Sana mission and culture.
