Pontarelli Professorship in Environmental Sustainability and Finance

Pontarelli Professorship in Environmental Sustainability and Finance

The Maxwell School, Syracuse University

Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs seeks outstanding candidates for the Pontarelli Professorship in Environmental Sustainability and Finance. This is a renewable fixed-term non-tenure-track position for a scholar or experienced practitioner with research or career experience in one or more of the following areas: sustainability and finance, renewable energy, adaptation to climate change and increasing community resilience, environmental risk management, or environmental and energy policy more broadly. Rank and title will be dependent on qualifications. Candidates should have a strong record of research, or of linking research to practice, and should have significant promise for teaching, particularly of undergraduates. We are especially interested in candidates with relevant experience in a sector outside academia, including industry, government or the nonprofit sector.

The successful candidate will contribute to a team of faculty advancing education and research on environmental and sustainability issues through the University’s undergraduate Environment, Sustainability, and Policy Integrated Learning Major and through the Sustainable Enterprise Partnership’s graduate Certificate of Advanced Study in Sustainable Enterprise. We strongly value excellent teaching, and the successful candidate will be expected to teach a mix of undergraduate and graduate courses.

An additional aspect of the position is the opportunity for participation in other interdisciplinary teaching and research activities. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates who could contribute to such collaborations across the Maxwell School and wider university. Opportunities for collaboration within Maxwell include the Center for Environmental Policy and Administration; the Center for Policy Research; and the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Cooperation.

Opportunities across the University more broadly include the University’s Sustainable Enterprise Partnership and the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems.

Finally, we seek candidates whose research, teaching, service, or lived experiences have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in our work with students, colleagues, and wider communities.
