Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, the heart of Duke University, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Vice Dean for Finance and Administration. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Vice Dean serves as a key advisor to the Dean and is responsible for providing strategic direction in resource management, allocation, and administration; advancing priorities in operational areas; and developing and executing a mission for the administrative operations and financial future of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. Specifically, the Vice Dean has direct oversight of finance, budget planning, strategic resource allocation including staff and faculty financial personnel matters, information services, and facilities. The Vice Dean will design, implement, execute, assess, and drive continuous improvement for these administrative activities within the College. 

This is a critically important appointment for Trinity College. Duke’s response to the COVID-19 crisis has been comprehensive, and College and University leadership responded quickly to preserve the safety and health of its students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community. The Vice Dean will join the College at a time when strategic and creative leadership is required to maintain a stable administrative and financial foundation at Trinity College throughout the course of the pandemic and beyond. This is also a moment of unprecedented racial and social reflection, and Duke University and Trinity College of Arts & Sciences are committed to action. Duke is taking transformative steps now toward eliminating the systems of racism and inequality that have shaped the lived experiences of many members of the Duke community. The next Vice Dean will play a critical role in advancing this work. 

The next Vice Dean will be a vital partner to academic and administrative leaders; will provide senior-level administrative leadership for the College, modeling the highest level of excellence, equity, proactivity, support for diversity, inclusion, and civility, and understanding about the College in the context of the larger University. The Vice Dean should also demonstrate an ability to lead diverse teams with trust and transparency, to work collaboratively with key groups of faculty, staff, and students across the College, and provide forward-thinking strategic financial and administrative counsel. The successful candidate will be a financially and technologically savvy, innovative, service focused, and collaborative leader. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience directing the operations of or otherwise providing leadership within a shared-services organization.
