Assistant Professor-Physics

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Physics at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is hiring a tenure track assistant professor with the goal of enhancing a science center to sustainably address foreseeable societal problems associated with resource limitations. The research areas of interest include but are not limited to: energy, environmental physics, next generation quantum logic and algorithms. Preference will be given to candidates working towards enhancing environmental sustainability.  Successful candidates are expected to develop an independent externally funded research program; to mentor, teach and direct students/researchers in physics from the undergraduate to postdoctoral levels; and to engage in outreach and service activities.  Anticipated appointment date is Fall 2021. ​

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:  The UTEP Department of Physics currently enrolls more than 120 graduate and undergraduate students. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics and participates in the multidisciplinary Ph.D. programs in Materials Science and Engineering, Computational Science, Environmental Sciences and Biomedical Science. The department has active research programs in atmospheric, bio-, computational, applied/materials, quantum information, and nuclear physics. Physics faculty and students benefit from state-of-the-art research laboratories for synthesis and structure-property investigations, optical spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance microscopy, and high-resolution imaging. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or related area, a demonstrated interest in sustainability science, and the capacity to secure extramural funding. Postdoctoral experience will be given preference.
