The College of Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the School of City and Regional Planning in Atlanta, Georgia.

Founded in 1951, the School of City and Regional Planning at Georgia Tech is one of the oldest in the nation and is consistently ranked in the top ten in the nation by Planetizen. At present, the School has approximately 150 students and 14 faculty, as well as numerous affiliated faculty from other units on campus and from the Atlanta practice community. In the past decade our faculty have served as editors for both JAPA and JPER. In addition to the Master of City and Regional Planning degree, the School currently enrolls 25 Ph.D. students and offers a Master of Geographic Information Science and Technology. The School is leading the effort to create an interdisciplinary Master of Science in Urban Analytics. The School is the home to an undergraduate minor in Sustainable Cities that serves the entire Institute. The School also participates in the College’s Master of Science in Urban Design and Master of Real Estate Development programs. The School also offers dual degrees with Architecture, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, and Law (with Georgia State University College of Law). The faculty has strong relationships several research centers, including the Center for Spatial Planning Analytics and Visualization (CSPAV) and the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development (CQGRD) as well as the Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems.

The Chair will be responsible for providing overall leadership in facilitating the intellectual, creative, and scholarly development of the School of City and Regional Planning. The Chair will also provide school administration and enhancement of its externally-funded research program, philanthropy, and its relationships with government, industry and the professional community. The Chair will have the opportunity to provide vision and leadership in furthering the School’s development in concert with the strategic directions of the College and the Institute. The School has a deep commitment to social justice and community engagement and strongly encourages candidates who will build on Atlanta’s history as the home of the civil rights movement. The Chair will have the opportunity to develop multidisciplinary initiatives with other schools and research centers across campus.

Candidates must have a terminal degree in City and Regional Planning or related field with a distinguished record of scholarly achievement that qualifies for a tenured position. Significant experience in academic or research administration is desirable. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment is anticipated on or about July 1, 2021.
