Endowed Associate/Full Professor

Endowed Associate/Full Professor of Statistics and Data Science at UCF

The Department of Statistics and Data Science at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for an endowed position at the rank of tenured Associate or Full Professor anticipated to begin August 2021.

A doctorate in Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required. We seek faculty candidates with a background in statistical learning, artificial intelligence or machine learning. The successful applicant must have a strong record in research and teaching that is commensurate with a tenured position in the Department of Statistics and Data Science at UCF.

The ideal candidate will have an established and internationally recognized research program that incorporates a solid statistical foundation with the technical and computational methodology that is ubiquitous in modern data science or significant experience in leading the development of state of the art AI technologies in industry.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong record of funding, extensive experience in mentoring/supervising Ph.D. students, and have made outstanding contributions in the areas of data science, big data analytics, statistics, high-dimensional data analysis, machine learning, and/or deep learning and a willingness to teach courses in these areas.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate will be an excellent mentor who can help students master both the theoretical and practical skills needed for success in this highly interdisciplinary field. We are especially interested in an individual who can lead the effort to build a top big data research program in the nation and contribute through their research, teaching, and service to the diversity and excellence of our academic community to foster an environment in which faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive.

The Department of Statistics and Data Science at UCF is dedicated to high-caliber research at the intersection of statistics, statistical machine learning, deep learning, data mining, computer science, and applied mathematics and to developing the statistical and analytical abilities of students that are necessary in an increasingly data-driven world. The Ph.D. program in Big Data Analytics offered by the department is the first of its kind in Florida, and one of only a few programs globally, that trains students and researchers to tackle the scale and complexity of real-world datasets encountered in contemporary industrial and academic settings. The department offers two undergraduate degrees, one in statistics and one in actuarial science; an M.S. degree with two tracks in data science and statistics; a SAS data mining certificate program and a Ph.D. degree in big data analytics. In 2021, the department is expected to launch a joint B.S. degree program in Data Science. For more information, visit https://sciences.ucf.edu/statistics/.
