Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance

Bellarmine University

An Invitation to Apply for the Position of

Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance

Louisville, Kentucky

Bellarmine University seeks a strategic, dynamic, and innovative professional to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance (CFO). This is an exciting opportunity to join Kentucky’s leading private university—and the premier independent Catholic university in the South. In the last three years, Bellarmine has appointed a new president, Dr. Susan Donovan; completed a $100 million fundraising campaign; completed construction of a $25 million campus center; adopted a new strategic plan; elevated its status to Doctoral Professional University in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education; and transitioned to NCAA Division I. The University is poised for even greater achievements, and the CFO will play a leading role in furthering Bellarmine's record of success.

Founded in 1950, Bellarmine has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and others for its high academic quality, dedication to students, and community spirit. The University seeks to instill a commitment to lifelong education worthy of its namesake, Saint Robert Bellarmine, and his invitation to learn and live in veritatis amore—in the love of truth. With approximately 2,500 undergraduates, 800 graduate students, seven colleges and schools, and more than 70 academic programs, Bellarmine combines the student-centered focus of a liberal arts college with the breadth of a comprehensive university.

Guiding Bellarmine’s overall financial strategies, the CFO will be a confidant to and financial executive for the President;  serve as a trusted advisor to the Board of Trustees and its Committees; act as a crucial colleague of the Provost; and provide vital data and analyses to support fellow Vice Presidents, Deans, faculty, and staff. Bellarmine's current strategic plan sets forth ambitious goals: delivering a transformative student experience; becoming a model for academic innovation; expanding enrollment and geographic reach; demonstrating a fully realized commitment to equity and inclusion; serving as a valued partner to the region; and ensuring the University's continued financial stability. It will be the CFO's responsibility to chart the financial path and facility plans that will help the University achieve these objectives.

The successful candidate will be a knowledgeable and collaborative leader with an understanding of the challenges confronting higher education, as well as the ability to mesh successfully with the collegial culture of Bellarmine. The CFO will possess excellent business acumen, including financial modeling and analytical skills; experience managing a complex portfolio; a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and open communication; and a record of strengthening diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred.

The University has formed a search committee for the position and Isaacson, Miller, the national executive recruiting firm, will assist. Materials (resumés with cover letters) and inquiries can be sent in confidence and should submitted electronically to Anita Tien and Amanda Sharaba at:
