Supportive and Palliative Care faculty position

The University of Iowa is seeking a physician board-certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine to serve as faculty in an established and vibrant Supportive and Palliative Care program.  The program has strong institutional support and is poised for growth. 

The academic appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, either in the Clinical Track or Tenure Track, commensurate with experience.  Candidates must have an MD or equivalent degree, excellent communication skills.  This position requires completion of an ACGME-accredited Residency Program.

The Supportive and Palliative Care program is staffed by an energetic and collegial team comprised of physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, supportive care nurses, social workers, a music therapist, chaplains, and other professionals. The palliative Care physicians bring multi-faceted expertise, including general internal medicine, family medicine, psychology, vascular surgery, and infectious disease. 

The Supportive and Palliative Care program staffs a daily outpatient clinic and an inpatient service, including a dedicated palliative unit, within an 811 bed tertiary university hospital.  The program supports an accredited Palliative Care fellowship and a learning culture at all levels.  The program partners with two community hospice organizations.  Philanthropic support for the program is strong, and planning is underway to establish a Palliative Care Institute to serve as the hub of a statewide palliative care outreach initiative.
