The Department of Statistics at the University of Washington is one of the leading statistics departments in the United States and worldwide.  The Department's research portfolio spans virtually all areas of statistics, including Bayesian modeling, machine learning, graphical models, spatial statistics, high-dimensional statistics, and applications to a variety of disciplines. The department trains undergraduate and graduate students in the theory, development and application of statistical techniques, and serves as a coordinating hub for statistical education within other disciplines.  It includes 30 full-time and part-time faculty members, as well as a continuous flow of visiting faculty and postdoctoral fellows who contribute greatly to the department.

The Department of Statistics maintains close relationships with a wide variety of units across campus and in Seattle. These include jointly-appointed faculty and jointly-offered courses, as well as collaborative events and research.
