Linguistics: Assistant, Associate, or Professor, Phonological Theory (open until filled, initial review 10/15/20)

The Department of Linguistics (https://linguistics.ucsc.edu/) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a position in phonological theory. We welcome candidates with additional background in theoretical and/or methodological areas beyond their primary expertise in phonology.

This position can be made at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure track), Associate Professor (with tenure) or Full Professor (with tenure). Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should have the teaching potential and research expertise in phonological theory that will enable them to contribute to this area. Applicants at the Associate Professor level or Full Professor level should have an established track record of teaching and research in phonological theory that will contribute significantly to this area of the Department's research profile and teaching mission. Applicants at the Full Professor level should in addition have a demonstrated record of service to the academic and professional communities.

The successful candidate will contribute to existing strengths in the Department but will also add to those strengths in new and substantive ways, and will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate curricula, including the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing traditionally underrepresented groups in higher education, and who have engaged in teaching, research, professional and/or public service contributions that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. These can take a variety of forms such as, but not limited to, effective pedagogical strategies used for the educational advancement of students in underrepresented groups; demonstrated contributions to the advancement of access and equal opportunity in education; and participation in activities that support the recruitment, retention, and success of scholars and students.

This position carries a five-course equivalency workload, which normally means teaching four courses over three quarters and carrying other academic and service responsibilities.
