Associate Dean for Development

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Information and Library Science and working closely with the Executive Director of Development (EDOD) for Constituent Programs, the Associate Dean for Development (Associate Dean) will serve as the Chief Development Officer of the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) with responsibility for establishing and executing the overall development strategy to meet annual and campaign fundraising goals established by the Dean and the University. The Associate Dean is an integral part of the Dean’s leadership team, and participates in and helps to shape the strategic vision for the School.

The Associate Dean has overall leadership responsibility for development at SILS through the management of the team and program, including annual, major, principal, planned, and institutional giving, as well as the donor cultivation events program, development communications, gift reporting, donor relations and alumni relations. The Associate Dean will manage the activities of the SILS Board of Visitors, Campaign Committee and other related advisory boards, engaging and motivating board and committee members to support the School philanthropically.

The Associate Dean staffs the Dean’s work with select principal gift prospects and donors and personally manages a portfolio of top prospects to cultivate and solicit major and principal gifts. He or she works collaboratively with development colleagues across campus to cultivate and solicit donors with multi-unit interests. He or she provides entrepreneurial leadership to the SILS development program, working to identify new sources of funding, especially those reflecting the current and emerging trends in information, library and data science, while maintaining and expanding ties with existing donors.

The Associate Dean serves as the primary liaison to the University Development Office (UDO), working closely with UDO’s EDOD for Constituent Programs. He or she serves as a member of development management, sitting on the Constituent Units Council, and representing SILS and its interests at standing UDO meetings. He or she is responsible for setting and meeting annual and campaign goals, as well as activity metrics typical for a University fundraiser, and ensuring that SILS development operations are consistent with UDO practices.
