Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

The State University of New York at New Paltz (New Paltz) seeks an energetic, visionary academic leader to serve as Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost) who can inspire and guide the continued evolution of the university as a top-tier public comprehensive institution. The University invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position.

Located in the scenic Hudson Valley, and with easy access to New York City, New Paltz (newpaltz.edu) was founded in 1828. Originally created as a school to teach the classics, New Paltz became a state normal school in 1885—offering courses to prepare graduates to teach in the New York public school system—and was formally incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) in 1948. It is one of 64 academic institutions that comprise the SUNY system (suny.edu). A highly selective and diverse university, New Paltz's mission and strategic objectives are supported by the core values of academic excellence, regional engagement, diversity and inclusion, and innovation.

The Provost fulfills a key role in university-wide matters, participates in system-wide academic initiatives and planning, and represents the university to appropriate external bodies. The Provost assumes overall institutional responsibility when the President is unavailable and must maintain high academic standards in an era of budgetary restraint, while nurturing the spirit of collaboration and entrepreneurship that is found on campus. Growing enrollment and high graduation rates coupled with widespread academic success for students of all backgrounds have earned national recognition for New Paltz and make this an exceptional leadership opportunity.

The successful candidate will hold an earned terminal degree, a progressive record of academic leadership experience in public or private higher education, a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship appropriate for an appointment as a tenured Full Professor in one of the university's academic departments. For the full list of qualifications, the application process and additional information about this opportunity, please review the position profile at www.academicsearch.org under the “Open Searches” tab.

Applications, nominations, and expressions of interest can be submitted in confidence to SUNYNPPROVOST@academicsearch.org. The position is open until filled, but only applications received by January 19, 2020, can be assured full consideration. The position is available beginning July 1, 2020.
