Assistant or Associate Professor Position in  Mechatronic Engineering Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and Sustainable Manufacturing College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management 
 
 
The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and Sustainable Manufacturing at California State University, Chico, is searching for a probationary tenure-track assistant or associate professor to start August 18, 2020. Qualification Details: 
 Minimum Qualifications The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is an earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the degree must be met no later than August 17, 2020. Proficiency in written and oral English is required. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and expertise in the integration of mechanical and electrical systems. The successful candidate should provide evidence of their commitment to or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds. 
 
Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in the following areas: machine automation, robotics, controls, real-time embedded systems, and sensors. Preference will be given to applicants with industry experience in their stated area(s) of expertise and the ability to advise externally sponsored capstone design projects. Preference will also be given to applicants with teaching experience in higher education. A professional engineering license is desirable. 
 
Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching at the undergraduate level, scholarship and professional development, and service to the University and community. Seeking externallyfunded research, developing successful research projects, and appropriate dissemination will be a requirement for achieving tenure. Candidates should strive to collaborate both within the college and with other colleges across campus. Service activities include student advising, serving on academic committees, and advising student clubs and organizations. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.                       The Department: The Department of MMEM offers three accredited B.S. degree programs: Mechanical Engineering (434 current majors), Mechatronic Engineering (205 current majors), and Sustainable Manufacturing (42 current majors). The Department also offers a minor in Manufacturing (39 current minors). It is one of seven departments in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management (ECC). 
           
 
 
The department prides itself in maintaining rigorous curricula, delivering programs that are practice-oriented with a strong design focus, and having accessible faculty who provide a high degree of personal attention to students. A major strength of the department is the Capstone Design Program for mechanical and mechatronic engineering, with about thirty industry-sponsored design projects completed each year. The department has several active student chapters that include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Institute of Mechatronic Engineers (AIM), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), Engineers for Alternative Energy (EAE), and the Materials Research Society (MRS). The College and Department typically support several major extracurricular student projects such as Baja SAE, Formula SAE, Rocketry, the Manufacturing Challenge, and the Collegiate Wind Competition.
