Job Description:

Position Summary

Mount Saint Mary's Business Administration Department is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for possible temporary part-time teaching assignments in Accounting and Finance. These positions are filled on an as-needed basis and recruitment is ongoing. Assignments include weekend and online courses.

General Responsibilities
Because Mount Saint Mary's Business Administration Department is committed to helping students achieve success not only with us, but also in their professional fields, we seek adjunct faculty members who are scholar-practitioners: professionals who are actively and successfully engaged in their field who additionally wish to help the next generation of professionals grow in their knowledge and expertise through education. The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following:

 

 

 

  • Teach assigned classes under the supervision of the Business Administration Department Chair and relevant Program Director;
  • Create a syllabus and course timeline for students each semester.
  • Help students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content;
  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student learning outcomes, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Manage the online grading system and utilize current technology in the performance of job duties;
  • Submit grades in a timely fashion;
  • Maintain a thorough and up-to-date subject-matter expertise in his/her regular teaching field;
  • Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position;
  • Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies.

Requirements:

The Business Administration Department at Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles offers Associate, Baccalaureate and Master's in Business Administration (MBA) degrees. The Mount's business programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP). Qualifications

 

  • Successful candidates should possess a Master's degree or PhD in finance, accounting, or a closely related field. PhD preferred.
  • The candidate will be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses related to accounting and/or finance.
  • The candidate will be able to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • The candidate will be able to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • The candidate will possess demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • The candidate will have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, gender, and ethnic backgrounds of students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles and teaching methods.
  • Higher education teaching experience is preferred.
