Two tenure-track faculty positions in the Nicholas School of the Environment

The Nicholas School of the Environment (NSOE) at Duke University seeks to hire two tenure-track faculty at the Assistant Professor level whose research will build on the School's core research and educational strengths to address key environmental challenges of the 21st century.

We invite applicants specializing in any of the following areas:
• Near-surface geology and geophysics with linkages to Earth resources, such as energy, minerals, water, and soils, or to geohazards.
• Large- and regional-scale physical oceanography or ocean-atmospheric interactions, with relevance to past, current, and/or future climate.
• Restoration ecology, developing natural solutions for increasing resilience across multiple systems or at landscapes scales in the face of ongoing environmental changes.
• Environmental health, broadly defined to include toxicology, environmental exposures and health effects, ecological-human health connections and environmental justice issues.

NSOE is a vibrant interdisciplinary community with faculty who conduct both basic and applied research in the physical, biological and social sciences. We anticipate that the successful candidates will be based in Durham, NC, but encourage them to collaborate with faculty from across the Nicholas School, both on main campus and at the Duke Marine Lab campus in Beaufort, NC.

These candidates are expected to develop an externally funded and nationally recognized research program, teach and mentor undergraduate, professional and graduate students, and engage in service within NSOE, the University, and in the broader scientific community. The successful candidates are also expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusivity, respect and excellence.

To apply, submit:
1. A cover letter that includes the applicant's approaches to diversity and inclusion in teaching, advising and scholarship;
2. Curriculum vitae;
3. A statement of research interests within the context of the future of your discipline, including information about existing or planned research support;
4. A teaching philosophy statement that includes concrete examples of how the applicant has put their philosophy into practice;
5. Up to three representative publications;
6. Names and contact information for a minimum of three references.
Applications should be directed to AcademicJobsOnline. See Job # 15443

The search committee will begin reviewing applications January 6, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. Further inquiries may be directed to the search committee chair, Professor Lincoln Pratson at nsoe-faculty-search@duke.edu
