The Opportunity

The University of Colorado Boulder, also known as CU Boulder, is a nationally-ranked public institution and one of the leading research universities in the country. CU Boulder is a member of the Association of American Universities, an elite group of 62 research universities. The university provides a technologically focused education to more than 34,500 undergraduate and graduate students across 150 fields of study, ranging from engineering, computing, and sciences, to business, economics, and liberal arts. In FY19, CU Boulder received total research funding of $630.9M and had R&D expenditures of $489.9M. The university has an annual impact of $3.85B on the state economy.

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Budget and Finance is a key member of CU Boulder’s financial leadership team and is responsible for providing university-wide leadership and broad strategic oversight in the monitoring, management, and control of the approximately $2 billion financial resources of the university. The AVC works closely and collaboratively with executive leadership and budget and financial managers across the institution to provide strong management reporting, controls, and excellent customer service throughout the university. The AVC acts as the Controller for the Boulder Campus.  Areas that report to the AVC comprise Accounting (including approximately $500 million grant and contract post-award management), Fiscal Compliance, Budget, and Fiscal Planning. 

This position requires a progressive, forward-thinking leader who can build strong working relationships within the department and across the university.  The AVC needs both technical expertise and emotional intelligence to manage the continuing cultural and operational changes as processes and tools continue to be improved, introduced, and integrated. S/He will demonstrate a commitment to valuing differences, solving issues through a global perspective lens, and commitment to partnering with the academic and research enterprises to ensure their continued success at CU Boulder.
