Assistant / Associate Professor - Theoretic Solar Physics

 

Position Summary:

The Physics Department at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in Theoretic Solar physics with an anticipated start date in Fall 2020.

 

Essential Functions:

The successful candidate will be data-based modeler who can develop an independent research program and collaborate with the other faculties in the department. The preference will be given to candidates who will carry out MHD or other modeling involving the data from the 1.6-meter Goode Solar Telescope at NJIT’s Big Bear Solar Observatory, achieve discovery science in understanding solar activity in highest resolution. The research can further be advanced in anticipation of the operation of 4-meter DKIST. The successful candidate is expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as develop new courses in areas of solar terrestrial physics, space weather and plasma physics.

 

Prerequisite Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or a related area. Demonstrated record in publication and obtaining research grants. Excellent oral and written communication skill.
