Position Summary:

This is a full-time faculty position that actively and effectively teaches a variety of computer science transfer classes, including but not limited to, computational thinking, introductory software engineering, computer architecture, data structures, and computer science electives. The Computer Science Instructor helps promote the access and success of students who have not traditionally participated in computer science education.  In addition to teaching, faculty are involved in program leadership, student advising, curriculum development and outcomes.

This position will begin Fall 2020

The Community We Serve

Chemeketa Community College is the third largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, with approximately 29,000 students enrolled from a diversity of backgrounds. Requirements

Master degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering from an accredited institution
-OR-
Masters degree in related field and 30+ graduate credits in Computer Science and/or Software Engineering

  • Demonstrated understanding of equity gaps and barriers to success for different student populations
  • Applied knowledge of best practices in actively and effectively teaching to a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated commitment to access and success of students who have not traditionally participated in computer science education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching Computer Science topics (Preferred teaching topics include: computational thinking, software engineering, computer architecture, and data structures)
  • Experience teaching in a community college or teaching lower division courses at a college/university
  • Experience teaching online and/or hybrid courses
  • Industry experience as a software engineer or as a trainer of software engineers
  • Experience in curriculum development, student advising and program coordination
