Search for the Dean of the School of Management

San Francisco, CA

The University of San Francisco (USF) is seeking a Dean of the School of Management who will lead the School to a new level of excellence, visibility, and distinction in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

USF is widely recognized nationally and internationally as a premier Jesuit, Catholic, urban university with a global perspective. Established as San Francisco's first institution of higher education in 1855, the University of San Francisco serves over 10,600 students in Management, Arts and Sciences, Law, Education, and Nursing and Health Professions. USF offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional students the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as persons and professionals, and the values and sensitivity necessary to be “men and women for others.” The University takes pride in educating leaders who are committed to creating a more humane and just world, inspired by the vision to "Change the World from Here." USF has been recognized as among the nation’s most racially diverse universities and among those with the highest proportion of international students.

The School of Management (SOM) offers a wide variety of both traditional and innovative management, business, nonprofit, and public administration programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels and is committed to developing compassionate and ethical leaders who will reimagine business, nonprofit, and governmental organizations to create a more humane and just world. The School has a talented group of 123 faculty, 73 of whom are full-time, across nine departments: Accounting; Business Analytics and Information Systems; Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Strategy; Finance; Hospitality Management; Marketing; Military Science; Organization, Leadership, and Communication; and Public and Nonprofit Administration. Today, approximately 2,300 students are enrolled in AACSB and NASPAA-accredited programs at the University's Hilltop campus, at its downtown San Francisco Campus strategically located in San Francisco’s vibrant Financial District, as well as online and at additional locations in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Reporting to the Provost and working in partnership with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and donors, the Dean will build upon the many strengths of the School of Management, including its exceptional commitment to social justice and community involvement, rich array of programs, talented faculty, and direct access to industry to ensure that USF continues to develop outstanding leaders for the 21st century. To accomplish these goals and lead the School of Management to next levels of excellence, the next Dean will address the following key opportunities and challenges:

  • Better position USF as a leader in business, nonprofit, and governmental management education in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Build a strong community and inspire excellence across teaching, research, and service within the School
  • Nurture a culture that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusivity
  • Assess and grow the portfolio of graduate and nondegree programs to align with the evolving needs of the business, nonprofit, and governmental sectors
  • Serve as both an internal and external advocate and fundraiser for the School of Management

Candidates must demonstrate: excellent internal management skills, outstanding communication and facilitation ability, the capacity to establish a visible presence for the School of Management to its many constituencies, and a commitment to fundraising as a central focus. Candidates should embrace the University's inclusive vision, mission, and values.
