Marking its 50th anniversary year, the Johnson County Community College (JCCC) Board of Trustees and presidential search committee invite nominations and applications for its 6th President of the College. JCCC embraces a mission of inspiring learning to transform lives and strengthen communities, a direction that has persisted since opening its doors in 1969. The President reports directly to a seven-member governing board, elected at large and serving four-year terms.  JCCC is located in Johnson County, Kansas, a county of approximately 600,000 residents, located in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. The Kansas City metro is known for its museums, restaurants, sports, music, and art scenes. JCCC is similarly dedicated to creating and maintaining a rich cultural community with an award-winning contemporary art museum and center for the performing arts on campus. The College recently completed a $110 million-dollar facilities master plan to improve the campus experience.

Johnson County Community College is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The College is committed to offering accessible, high quality education from a single campus with multiple satellite locations. JCCC is devoted to enriching lives by meeting individual, community, and workforce needs in a supportive environment. A knowledgeable, dedicated faculty and staff work on behalf of over 38,000 credit and Continuing Education students in a stimulating academic community. With a commitment to diversity, JCCC delivers a cohesive, campus-wide support system for its student body, which includes non-traditional, military-affiliated, veteran, immigrant, international, and first-generation college students. The student body reflects the growing racial and ethnic diversity of the county. JCCC is a recognized regional and national leader, integrating sustainability into both physical campus operations and classroom curriculum. The JCCC Cavalier athletes compete in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference of the National Junior College Athletic Association. In recent years these student athletes have captured 11 national championships.

The JCCC community seeks an exceptional leader in higher education who values teaching, learning, and scholarship and will demonstrate a commitment to the College's mission. The ideal candidate's leadership style will be characterized as collaborative, congenial, and transparent. Importantly, the selected candidate will articulate the values of both a liberal arts and a career/technical education. It will be important for the President to build upon established relationships with all communities throughout Johnson County and the state of Kansas while cultivating new ones.

ATTRIBUTES OF LEADERSHIP

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.;
  • Experience as a full-time faculty and/or administrator in a two-year college setting (preferred) or university;
  • Focus on students, student access, and positive student life experiences;
  • Proven commitment to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion in policies, procedures, and practices;
  • Practitioner of collaborative leadership and tenets of shared governance;
  • Ability to attract, empower, and develop outstanding faculty, administration, and staff;
  • Champion JCCC with all stakeholders, including the state legislature, business community, foundations, K-12, the statewide higher education sector, and the county residents;
  • Transformative and resourceful administrative leadership with an innovative vision for the long-term success of JCCC;
  • Financial aptitude and success in finances, budget allocation, and resource generation;
  • Track record as an effective communicator and spokesperson with strong oral, written, listening, and interpersonal skills committed to engaging strategies for positive conflict resolution;
  • Work with the college foundation to raise contributions to support grant proposals, initiatives, and scholarships;
  • Commitment to enhancing a global perspective and international opportunities in teaching and scholarship.
