POSITION DETAILS

           

Brooklyn College, a distinguished senior college within the City University of New York (CUNY) system, invites applications for Associate Dean of the School of Education. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Education (SOE), the Associate Dean works closely with the Dean and faculty to achieve goals aligned with Brooklyn College’s Strategic Plan and the CUNY Strategic Framework. The incumbent will collaborate with faculty and department chairpersons to prepare the School for accreditation, assist with strategic planning processes, manage administrative requests and concerns from students and chairpersons, and participate in fundraising activities.

 

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

 

- Lead school-wide accreditation efforts. Work closely with faculty to gather, analyze and disseminate all required program and assessment data, complete annual reports, write self-study and coordinate logistics for the campus site visit. Serve as the liaison to the College’s Academic Assessment Council and assist with Middle States accreditation, as it pertains to the School of Education.

 

- Oversee all aspects of the quality assurance assessment system for the SOE, including management of the software, monitoring faculty submissions, disseminating data to faculty for analysis and comparison by established deadlines.

 

- Supervise the Certification Officer in completing the annual Title II report, disseminating certification test data to program coordinators, informing faculty, staff, and students of requirements for New York State educator certifications and tracking certification and job placements of recent graduates.

 

- Develop and facilitate faculty and staff professional development offerings.

 

- Work closely with the Dean on fundraising activities for the School of Education, including grant-writing.

 

- Assist the Dean with implementing new CUNY and community initiatives as they arise and overseeing ongoing initiatives within the SOE portfolio.

 

- Serve as a liaison with the New York City Department of Education and other community-based organizations, as needed. Serve as a liaison to the New York State Education Department regarding program registration, requirements, discontinuance, and other programmatic issues.

 

- Provide leadership in handling administrative concerns from students and department chairpersons. Work closely with faculty in dealing with student e-permits, grade appeal requests, grievances, standards of conduct, ADA issues, diversity issues, and other student concerns and/or complaints. Assist program faculty to develop and implement policies, practices and procedures to deal with student non-academic performance problems. Assist chairpersons with facilitating admissions, enrollment, and facilities management procedures in the School of Education.

 

- Serve as liaison to other academic support programs and services on campus (e.g., registrar, admissions, communications, library, institutional technology, etc.). Interface with other associate/assistant deans in the College as appropriate. Represent the School and attend various local and state agency meetings as assigned.

 

- Assume the role of dean in her absence.

 

- Carry out other tasks and responsibilities as requested by the dean.

 

- Appointment to this position may carry the rank of Associate or full professor and tenure may be granted upon, depending on qualifications and experience

           

QUALIFICATIONS

           

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Preferred

- Experience in the development of grant proposals and contracts with municipal agencies.
