Vice President for Student Development

Denison University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Student Development.

Founded in 1831, Denison University’s purpose is to inspire and educate students to become autonomous thinkers, discerning moral agents and active citizens of a democratic society. Denison is a highly selective, four-year, independent, and fully residential undergraduate college located in Granville, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, home to Fortune 500 companies and robust cultural and civic life. The College enrolls 2,300 students and has more than 230 faculty members throughout 52 academic programs. Denison seeks to promote collaboration, active learning and engagement through a rich array of academic and co-curricular experiences. The strength of the Denison community is the broad backgrounds, identities and experiences of its members. Denison is committed to cultivating a campus environment that celebrates the diversity and pluralism of our campus, that fosters the skills and aptitudes of living and working in a complex world of many cultures, and that achieves inclusive excellence.

Reporting to President Adam Weinberg, the Vice President for Student Development will actively immerse themselves in a rich residential student experience. The VPSD is responsible for envisioning and implementing progressive strategies and operations that support Denison’s mission and our commitment to student learning and development in a positive, healthy, and safe campus environment.

Strong candidates will have outstanding communication, leadership, and crisis management skills; a deep commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community; and a collaborative nature and willingness to build professional relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni. The position requires the ability to make and communicate difficult decisions in a clear and effective manner; to use outstanding judgment and set an example for others to follow; and to create a culture of respectful and thoughtful discourse and debate. The next Vice President will uphold the Division of Student Development’s mission to challenge students to both act and reflect, to respect self and others, and to apply their education and talents for the good of local and global communities.
