Assistant Professor in Literacy Education

The Department of Curriculum &Teaching in the School of Education at The University of Kansas (KU) is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor in Literacy Education with expertise in digital literacies and disciplinary literacies. This 9-month, tenure-track position will begin in August 18, 2020. We seek a scholar interested in promoting just, equitable and inclusive education, who can help us expand our commitment to the education of children and youth in urban or diverse settings and prepare PK-12 educators and researchers. The Department of Curriculum & Teaching offers degrees at the undergraduate (B.S. Ed.), Master’s (M.A. and M.S. Ed.) and doctoral (Ed.D. and Ph.D.) levels. Teaching load is two courses per semester. A high research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and successful grant applications leading to external funding, is expected. The successful applicant is expected to mentor students to develop their research skills and scholarly production, and to integrate individual and cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion into teaching, research, and service. We are seeking candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching and advising, including a willingness to teach in online settings. Evidence of, or potential for, significant involvement in schools and districts are also highly preferred.

The University of Kansas is a Division I Research Institution with an enrollment of approximately 30,000. Lawrence is a community of 80,000, located 30 miles west of Kansas City and 20 miles east of Topeka, the state capital. The University’s main campus is in Lawrence. School of Education programs also are offered on the main campus, through the KU Edwards Campus in the Kansas City area and online. The Department of Curriculum & Teaching is the largest of five departments in the School of Education.
