ENDOWED ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT CHAIR

Stony Brook University announces a national and international search for the inaugural Endowed Economics Chair.

The Department of Economics is the very fortunate recipient of a $25 million gift from one of its esteemed graduates.  This gift is expected to elevate an already outstanding Department, known for its excellence in the core areas of economics: Game Theory and Microeconomic Theory, Macroeconomics, and Applied Econometrics.  This is an exciting time to lead the Department and the University seeks an individual who will strategically grow the Department and contribute to raising its stature and standing. (Additional information about the Department and a ‘Prospectus’ can be found at https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/economics/about/index.php.)

Reporting directly to the Dean of Arts and Sciences, the Chair is responsible for the overall leadership of the Department, articulating and promoting its goals and setting its vision.  The Chair will be an advocate for the faculty, while representing and translating goals of the administration to the faculty.  The Chair is expected to be a distinguished scholar who possesses excellent administrative and managerial skills.  The Search Committee seeks a collaborative leader who is a visionary and a consensus-builder--someone who is transparent, of unquestioned integrity, and possessed of outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.  The Chair will be resilient and capable of making difficult decisions when necessary.

Stony Brook University is a member of the distinguished Association of American Universities (AAU) and is a flagship within the State of New York (SUNY) System.  The University enrolls nearly 27,000 students, employs approximately 15,000 individuals, and has an annual operating budget of $2.7 billion.  The University is ranked among the top 25 public universities in the Wall Street Journal/Times ‘Higher Education 2020 U.S. College Rankings’ and is also included in US News & World Report’s ‘Top 100 National Universities’ listing.
