The Dean of Graduate Studies and Research is the chief administrative officer and academic leader of graduate studies and research at the University and reports directly to the Provost. Southeast has a long-standing history of successful graduate programs and offers master’s degrees, education specialist degrees, and participates in collaborative EdD programs. Southeast enrolls more than 1,000 graduate students in over 60 graduate degrees across five academic colleges.

The Dean Graduate Studies and Research will be responsible for developing and overseeing implementation of the strategic plan for graduate education and research while fostering an intellectual environment characterized by excellence in teaching and learning and discipline-based scholarship. Additional responsibilities include coordinating graduate program assessment efforts, overseeing graduate programs and standards, fostering faculty development related to graduate education and research, and advocating for graduate education and research to internal and external stakeholders.

Additionally, the Dean will oversee The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, chair and provide direction for the Graduate Council, and represent graduate education on various university committees. The successful candidate will be expected to collaboratively work with the other colleges to develop and promote best practices in recruiting and supporting students. The Dean will also provide oversight for the academic integrity and quality of graduate programs and promote innovative delivery methods to meet the needs of the graduate populations.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned terminal degree from a regionally accredited university and a record of accomplishment sufficient to qualify for appointment as a full professor
  • Academic administrative experience of at least five years at the department level or higher
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of grants management, ethical practice of research, and knowledge of regulations and requirements related to research and funding
  • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance
  • Evidence of a commitment to the recruitment, advancement, and retention of a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in managing and strategically using budgets
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multicultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
