The Department of Teaching and Learning in the Simmons School of Education and Human Development of Southern Methodist University invites applications for three full-time faculty positions beginning August 1, 2020. Assistant/Associate Professor of Science, Technology, Engineering, OR Math Education - Position No. 53464

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in shaping a new dynamic public school focused on STEM Education and join a vibrant research and teacher education community. This new school represents a four-way partnership between industry, school district, university, and the community. For more information about the West Dallas Stem School, please visit https://www.smu.edu/simmons/AboutUs/ModelSchool.  Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service.  We are especially interested in candidates whose scholarly work focuses on one of the STEM disciplines in one or more of the following areas: Pre-K-12 student learning, bilingual education, teacher education, urban education, or learning sciences. 

Required qualifications include: (a) earned doctorate in a STEM Education-related field; (b) demonstrated and ongoing record of scholarly work commensurate with rank; (c) excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses; (d) demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness; and (e) evidence of participation/leadership in national professional organizations.   Preferred qualifications include: (a) experience developing and/or sustaining collaborative partnerships and interdisciplinary initiatives; (b) two or more years of experience working in Pre-K-12 contexts; (c) history of obtaining external funding for research and (d) demonstrated mentorship of doctoral students.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Bilingual Education - Position No. 53208

The Clinical Assistant Professor is a full-time, non-tenured position in Bilingual Education.  Qualifications include a commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching, and a respect for diversity in the school communities we serve. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in education or a related field (i.e., psychology, applied linguistics, bilingual education, TESOL, anthropology) and speak Spanish fluently, as well as have a deep understanding of the Hispanic culture.  Teaching experience at the college level, and elementary or secondary level is desirable, as is experience in ESL strategies and mathematics or science education.

Clinical Professor of Educational Diagnostician & Director of the Learning Therapy Program - Position No. 52507

The Clinical Professor is a full-time, non-tenured position.  Qualifications include a commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching, and a respect for diversity in the school communities we serve. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Special Education or a related field (i.e., Diagnostician, Educational Psychology or Literacy). Requirements for the position include experience in a school setting as a diagnostician, school psychologist, dyslexia interventionist or teacher.  Preference will go to those who also have teaching and administrative experience in higher education. Bilingual diagnostician experience preferred.   Additional Training and Certification Preferences include Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), CALT Instructor, and additional International Dyslexia Association qualifications.  Candidates should have earned a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education, Diagnostics, Educational Psychology, or  Literacy.
