Research Assistant 2

The Office of Early Childhood-UConn Partnership is a team of researchers dedicated to understanding how the State can best serve children and families from birth to age five.  This dynamic team of researchers examines the agency’s core operations as well as special evaluation projects related to child development, early intervention, and early education.  This group seeks to understand the social impact of investment in early childhood programs across the state of Connecticut.

The Data Analyst will be part of a dynamic team of researchers, passionate about outcomes for families.  This position will be 40 hours per week with a generous benefit package.   The successful candidate will be proficient in database management, data analysis, statistical analysis, and data reporting skills. They will have demonstrated expertise using advanced statistical techniques.

The Data Analyst, under the supervision of the project director, will carry out analysis protocols in accordance with research standards and responsibilities essential to the operation of the University of Connecticut’s School of Social Work on grant funded projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain subject matter knowledge of early childhood, child welfare, and social economic mobility by performing literature reviews and presenting results;
  • Collaborate with academics, researchers, and state government personnel;
  • Use SQL to clean, merge and analyze administrative data bases;
  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses, using preferred stats package such as Stata, SPSS, SAS or R;
  • Cleaning, merging and analyzing large administrative databases;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • Prepare data presentations (data visualization, reports, PowerPoints) for different audiences including academic audiences including academic manuscripts, briefs, and legislative testimony.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Either a B.A. or B.S. degree in a field with a quantitative focus (e.g. Education, Psychology, Family Studies, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Statistics, etc.), and two to three years of post-degree experience or a Master’s Degree with no to one year’s experience. Equivalent specialized training and experience may be considered for those without a degree ;
  • Experience cleaning, analyzing and merging large administrative databases;
  • Conduct basic statistical analysis;
  • Ability to collaborate/work independently as part of a disbursed team.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-date position subject to renewal based upon funding and satisfactory performance. Compensation will be based on experience and will range from $50,000 to $70,000 annually (Full time equivalent) depending on experience. A generous benefit package is provided.
