Assistant Professor - Theatre Studies

Brief Summary of Work for this Position      

The Department of Theatre at the UNC-Wilmington seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor in Theatre Studies within an undergraduate BA Program. Start date is August 2020. Primary responsibilities include teaching academic core curriculum courses as well as diverse areas within the candidates specialization: Non-Western theatre, criticism, dramaturgy, devised theatre, Gender/Performance Studies, Postdramatic theatre. UNCW strongly encourages applications from women and members of underrepresented minority groups.

Current salary range is mid $50’s and includes a strong benefit package. On campus interviews of finalists will occur early spring semester.

Minimum Requirements  

Must have experience or familiarity with current online teaching formats, curricula, digital archives, and research methodologies. As publication and teaching writing intensive courses are expected, applicants must hold a Ph.D. or DFA in Theatre or Performance Studies in hand at the time of application. Must demonstrate potential for significant scholarly productivity as well as participation and leadership in regional or national organizations related to their expertise.

Preferred Qualifications    

Preferred qualifications include an articulated publishing agenda, experience teaching at the university level, and an interest in developing and implementing curricula for the customized/Hybrid option (including online courses).

Primary Function of Organizational Unit      

Our mission is to provide high level education and training in theatre art within the context of a liberal arts environment. For our majors committed to performance or production, we combine pre-professional training with a solid academic core in order to prepare our students for a range of outcomes: from entry into the theatre and film markets to exciting careers in related fields of communication and other cognate disciplines. For theatre minors or general university students we offer a range of production opportunities, as well as academic and active learning workshop classes to augment the general student’s breadth of knowledge. For the university community and beyond we provide outreach programs and an eclectic and engaging season of productions that promulgate our view of theatre as both art and humanity.
