Assistant Research Professor

Position Summary  
 
The Eversource Energy Center solicits applications for a non-tenure-track research faculty position at the assistant processor level with an expected start date of January 1, 2020.  The position seeks to advance research in power engineering or related specialties. The position will have an academic home in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. 
 
As a trusted source for energy expertise, the Eversource Energy Center is a leading energy industry-academia partnership advancing research and cutting-edge technologies to continually improve power grid efficiency and reliability. Leading the way for energy companies across the country, the Center has established its reputation as a leader in predictive analytics and innovative solutions for electric reliability, forest sustainability, grid hardening and grid modernization. With an initial $9M investment from Eversource Energy and an additional $2M from other utilities and industrial partners, the center has funded several projects ranging from predictive analytics for stormbased power outages, to grid modernization and cyber-security. The Center has recently acquired a major RTDSbased grid simulation testbed facility, and plans to invest in research projects that will use this grid simulation system for testing and validation of distributed energy resources in the power grid and grid modernization methods. 
The successful candidate will be expected to develop research projects based on the RTDS grid simulation system and sustain an internationally-recognized and externally-funded research program in power engineering.   
The successful candidate will:    Have a research expertise on power systems engineering with a focus on advanced power systems and grid modernization.  Specific areas of interest include: i. understanding and analyzing microgrid stability and uncertainty and associated control approaches ii. resiliency and control methods in the presence of cyber and other malicious threat actors iii. smart grid technologies including communications techniques, advanced command and control mechanisms for generation and management, and advanced grid monitoring and management iv. integration of distributed energy resources including renewable energy and storage technologies with the grid.    Contribute to the Eversource Energy Center’s academic mission  Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.  
 
Minimum Qualifications 1. Completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field by the time of the appointment. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.  3. Strong interpersonal skills.  4. Demonstrated success in original research, and publication of that work in archival journals.  5. Experience with oral presentations at national or international scientific meetings.  6. Significant experience with RTDS simulation tools. 
 
Preferred Qualifications  1. Research credentials in power engineering and that complements existing faculty expertise.  2. Experience as a post-doctoral or industry researcher in a research-competitive environment.  3. A background that provides preparation for teaching graduate courses in power engineering.  4. Exposure to developing research grant applications to federal funding agencies.  5. Interest in collaboration with industry.  

 Appointment Terms This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position with an expected start date of January 1, 2020.  The position is annually renewable with an expected duration of three years.  The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
