Director of Budgets and Financial Analytics

Brief Summary of Work for this Position              

The Director of Budgets and Financial Analytics is responsible for establishing the direction and administration of the complex and detailed budget process. This position collaborates with campus leadership and division budget managers to ensure they have the information necessary to recommend budget actions. Responsibilities include leading a team that develops reports, analyzes and interprets financial data, models scenarios, calculates projections, evaluates data for trends, and provides information to senior leadership to make strategic decisions for the university.

The Director establishes proper budget procedures and methods, oversees the maintenance of these procedures and methods and ensures compliance with university, state and federal policies and requirements. The Director prepares University analysis and presentations as requested by the AVC Finance and VC Business Affairs, evaluates and recommends options to leadership, and then reports on the results of those decisions.

Minimum Requirements             

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or similar area of study.

Seven years of budget experience in higher education environment.

Five years leadership experience in management role.

List the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position         

Experience with ERP systems, preferably Banner by Ellucian.

Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally to leadership and colleagues on campus.

Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

Preferred formal education, professional skills and work experience     

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance or other similar area of study.

Budget experience working in public higher education environment in North Carolina.

Primary purpose of the division, department, and/or grant        

Business Affairs is responsible for supporting the university’s teaching, research, and public service mission by providing quality business and administrative services to the UNCW community and ensuring transparency in planning and budgeting.

Finance provides university financial services to students and the campus community.

The University Financial Analytics and Budget Office resides within Finance in Business Affairs and is responsible for providing university financial reports, projections, and analysis and administers all of the budgeting functions for the operation of UNCW. The Financial Analytics and Budget Office is responsible for maintaining fiscal integrity through development and administration of financial and budgetary control functions. The Financial Analytics and Budget Office works with the Controller’s Office and other areas within Finance to provide accurate and complete financial data to university management and state and federal agencies.
