The Dean serves as the primary representative of the School to the University and the community, building relationships and creating a positive academic and work environment. The Dean coordinates academic and advancement activities within the School; participates in University-wide planning and management activities; enhances instructional programs and research; and seeks interdisciplinary, cross-unit, and cross-campus opportunities to meet emerging needs and provide contemporary and visionary education. The Dean also pursues fundraising opportunities and directs the development of internal and external partnerships to support the School’s programs and services.

Qualifications: The new Dean should possess a genuine understanding of the importance of providing undergraduate and graduate students with the highest-quality educational experience, including a commitment to high impact practices throughout the curricula. The next Dean will have an understanding of emerging trends, the importance of continuing and growing relationships with business and industry, and also strategies for marketing programs and students. S/he will be able to leverage technology and entrepreneurship within a complex environment, with a student-focused vision. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, nimble, and creative leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a deep understanding of fiscal planning and budgeting, and a focus on efficiency and transparency. The successful candidate should possess a strong commitment to civil rights, inclusion, diversity, and education as a means for social change. A record of fostering a collegial and respectful workplace in an educational or similarly complex environment is essential. The Dean must hold a doctorate or terminal degree or possess equivalent experience in business and industry with an understanding of academia. Location: Howard University’s main campus is located in Washington, DC, within five miles of the United States Capitol. Howard has grown from a single-frame building in 1867 to more than 256 acres, which consists of Howard’s main campus, 400-bed Howard University Hospital, its East and West campuses, and a 108-acre research facility in Beltsville, Maryland.
