The School of Public Service seeks to hire one (1) tenure-track Assistant Professor to contribute to its Master of Public Administration (MPA).  The successful candidate will be expected to offer courses in public budgeting and finance, in addition to other MPA core and graduate methods courses.  The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the MPA program’s emphases in State & Local Government and/or Environmental Policy.  Depending on interest and qualifications, candidates may also have the opportunity to teach in other SPS programs, including the PhD in Public Policy and Administration, Masters in Political Science or Criminal Justice, or undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice, Environmental Studies, Global Studies, Political Science, and Urban Studies and Community Development.

 

Research area is open, but faculty have identified the following areas as particularly important for enriching faculty research within SPS:

  • Public budgeting and finance
  • Nonprofit organizations and management
  • Risk and/or emergency management
  • Environmental crime
  • Public management skills and techniques
  • Community engagement and/or diplomacy
  • Rural policy challenges, such as food policy and/or adaptive capacity

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Teach graduate courses in the MPA program. 
  • Contribute to the School of Public Service’s other graduate and undergraduate programs, as appropriate.
  • Engage in academic and public service scholarship.
  • Engage in professional, university, and public service. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • PhD in Public Policy and/or Administration, Political Science, or related field. Advanced ABD candidates will be considered. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Ability to teach courses in public budgeting and finance.
