The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks candidates for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice in Acting to teach acting at all levels of undergraduate education.

The Johnny Carson School is a NAST accredited institution and member of U/RTA offering the BA, BFA, and MFA in Theatre Arts with substantial endowments for technology/programmatic support/upgrades and vision for the future. The Carson School is part of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts that, through its generous endowment, further supports the theatre faculty and students by funding a professional film series, scholarships, student and faculty travel, and productions for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the professional producing arm of the School.

The Carson School’s unique affiliation with the Nebraska Repertory Theatre (NRT), Nebraska’s only Equity professional theatre, allows students the opportunity to work alongside seasoned professionals while earning points towards membership in Actors Equity Association (AEA).

The ideal candidate will have a professional background in performance, a documented track record of excellence in teaching multiple levels of acting with an additional area of specialization that might include acting for the camera and new media, voice over, improvisation, Interactive Media Arts experience, Immersive Theatre, and/or devising original work. Preference will be given to candidates whose research agenda in performance supports our aspirations to create a BFA program that serves as a creative incubator for how we approach performance training for the 21st Century. We seek a passionate and compassionate pool of diverse candidates that will be able to challenge, support, and mentor a growing and increasingly diverse student body.

Minimum qualifications:
• MFA in Acting or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in a recognized actor training methodology.
• Two years teaching experience at the university level in acting.

Preferred qualifications:
• Membership in Actors Equity Association and/or SAG/AFTRA.
• Significant professional credits as an actor in nationally or internationally recognized theatres and/or film, new media, and/or television productions.
• Experience in the recruitment, mentoring, and advising of first-generation students and a diverse student body.
• Experience in the process and creation of devised theatrical works.
• Experience in recruiting students to collegiate acting programs.
• Expertise in an additional training technique/discipline.
• Experience with performative processes across film, gaming, interactive media, broadcast and internet media, and/or augmented and virtual reality.
