PROVOST and EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The College of Charleston announces a nationwide search to recruit a new Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Located in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina, the College of Charleston is a nationally recognized public liberal arts and sciences university. Founded in 1770, the College is one of the oldest universities in the nation and among the nation’s top universities for quality education and student life. Its beautiful and historic campus, combined with contemporary facilities, cutting-edge programs and excellent faculty,  attracts students from across the U.S. and around the world.

Over 9,500 undergraduates and approximately 1,000 graduate students at the College enjoy a small-college feel blended with the advantages and diversity of a mid-sized, urban university. The students work closely with a committed faculty, made up of more than 500 distinguished teacher-scholars.  The city of Charleston – world-renowned for its history, architecture, culture and coastal environment – serves as a living laboratory for experiences in business, science, technology, teaching, the humanities, languages and the arts.

The Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the College and a key member of the President’s senior staff. The Provost oversees academic programs, faculty affairs and many academic support functions, and works to ensure that the College fulfills its institutional mission and goals.  (Additional information regarding the Office of the Provost can be found at http://academicaffairs.cofc.edu/.)

The Search Committee seeks a proven scholar and accomplished administrator who values teaching, research, and service, and who understands the opportunities and challenges major public liberal arts institutions face. The selected individual will be student-centered, dedicated to academic excellence and have an appreciation for a world-class faculty. She or he will possess vision, integrity, creativity, energy, acumen, and diplomatic skills; and will understand and appreciate the value of the liberal arts, professional education, and scholarly research. Joining a new President, the next Provost of the College of Charleston will need to be a consensus-building and collegial academic leader who encourages innovation, participating fully in the life of the University and community.

The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree and will have a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship commensurate with appointment as a tenured professor in a discipline offered at the University. He or she will also have a proven record of leadership, collaboration, and higher education experience at the level of Dean, Associate Provost, Provost or comparable position.

While applications and nominations will be accepted until a new Provost is selected, interested parties are encouraged to submit their materials to our consultant at the address below by January 6, 2020 to receive optimal consideration.  Application materials should include a current resume and letter of interest.
