Job Description
The Department of Geography at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications for a full-time appointment as a Teaching Assistant Professor in Geographic Information Systems (non-tenure track) with interest in teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in GIS, spatial analysis, cartography and visualization, and spatial data collection. Teaching experience using ArcGIS platforms or other GIS software is required for an applicant to be considered. The expected start date is as soon as January 2020. The position is based in the College of Science, and is renewable annually based on funding and performance. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the Department's undergraduate specialization in Geotechnologies and handling other courses to assist in meeting geography's core curriculum and four additional specializations. The candidate should have demonstrable commitment to educational equity in a multicultural setting and commitment to advancing the participation of diverse groups and supporting diverse perspectives. The candidate will be expected to teach at all levels of the curriculum (lower and upper division undergraduate, MS-MA/PhD). The normal teaching load is seven courses per year, with courses taught during the Fall and Spring semesters. There may be added opportunities to develop new courses that meet curricular needs or that are based on faculty expertise. We are interested in candidates with experience in the development and transition of traditional classes to online courses, which would count toward the teaching load. Service responsibilities include teaching lab equipment and computing oversight, and informal advising and research support of undergraduate and graduate students (e.g. GIS project management and assistance) in the Department of Geography program and related fields.
Required Qualifications: 
Ph.D. in Geography or a related field in hand by start date (as soon as spring 2020 semester)
Developing or established teaching experience in GIS and spatial analysis 
Knowledge regarding the application of GIS to a variety of fields
Experience in quantitative GIS programming (e.g. in R or Python).
Preferred Qualifications (if any): 
Evidence of, or potential for, supporting research activities using GIS and Geotechnology
Experience in constructing online courses
Ability to teach courses in spatial databases and GIS programming
Experience with web-based GIS platforms
Compensation Grade: 0(II)
